Three years ago, I was determined to always seek out knowledge and new skills regarding Educational Technology. What I quickly realized was that I needed to make a determined effort to actively, rather than passively, engage in professional organizations and professional learning networks (PLNs) associated with the field of Educational Technology. While completing my studies in the Learning Design and Technology (LDT) program, I have been diligent in my efforts to not only engage in the profession, but also contribute to the profession. Through active engagement, I have embodied the pursuit of participating in communities of practice within the field of LDT. As I look to the future, I must continue seek out growth opportunities, as well as opportunities to share my knowledge and skill.

My career took an interesting, and not anticipated, twist in July of 2015. I received a call from my principal asking if I would consider transitioning into the role of Digital Instructional Coach. At that point, I had only dabbled, and not always successfully, in the field of educational technology. Riding on the confidence of my principal, I dove head in. There was just one problem, being first in our district to go one-to-one with a Windows device, I was on my own island without a help-mate in sight. Out of sheer necessity, I began searching for professional networks and organizations to join. I knew that the only way I was going to be able to positively impact my staff was to be rooted among other professionals striving to impact education through the integration of technology tools and applications.
Thus, I became part of the Professional Learning Network (PLN) Microsoft Innovative Educators (MIE) Experts. It was from my professional connections in the MIE Experts PLN that I blossomed as a Digital Instructional Coach. Since my entrance into the MIE Experts PLN in 2015, I have become a member of several national and international PLNs. It can be noted from the associated support document, Professional Contributions 2015-2016, that I have achieved membership for, and have presented at the associated conferences, with the following professional communities or associations:
Also, through the international MIE Experts PLN, I was chosen to attend an international conference for select MIE Experts PLN members. The conference was attended by MIE Experts from 83 countries. While there, through a community forum, I was able to share a presentation regarding stained glass, math, and the technology tool Desmos. It was life-changing to meet colleagues from my international PLN. I now have educational technology connections across the globe.
